Situated in the Highway mistbelt, 30km west from the Durban CBD and at an elevation of 540m above sea level, Kloof contains a wealth of flora and fauna, breathtaking views of Kloof Gorge, walking trails from gentle to arduous, numerous streams and many waterfalls. Kloof Conservancy is a key player in protecting and preserving this amazing biodiversity.
To protect and improve the quality of the environment of the area known as Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal which shall encompass the following.A healthy, hazard-free, harmonious and aesthetically pleasing environment in which both natural and man-made resources are conserved; historical and cultural links are maintained; and opportunities are found for recreation and social interaction in pleasant surroundings with convenient and accessible use of the environment as an educational stimulus and resource.
Health - the creation and maintenance of a healthy, hazard-free environment
Resource Conservation - the protection and wise use of natural resources of Kloof
Aesthetics - to conserve and protect aesthetic qualities of Kloof
Historical and Cultural - to create a sense of belonging by preserving continuity and maintaining links with important aspects of the historical and cultural heritage of Kloof
Recreational / Social - the creation and preservation of social and recreational facilities which do not clash with the natural environment of Kloof
The creation and maintenance of an environmental education programme in line with the abovementioned objectives
Establish a fund for the purpose of receiving donations to be used exclusively to defray any expenditure directly incurred in providing environmental services in the Kloof area of Kwazulu-Natal. Such services shall be consistent with the objectives of the Kloof Conservancy and will be for the benefit of the general public, in particular through the preservation of the environmental resources including the removal of alien invasive trees and plants and replacing them with suitable endemic, indigenous material. This will include, but not be limited to assisting the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve (a division of KZN Wildlife) in its endeavours to protect the environment of the region

This event has over the years, raised significant sums of money for the removal of alien vegetation within the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve. The other major impact of the gardens on display is that they have demonstrated that indigenous plants are neither dull nor lacking in colour. The open gardens have done wonders to raise public awareness of our wonderful floral kingdom, the benefits of bringing Nature back to one's garden as well as that of having a water-wise garden.
